Beyond Behaviour Community Services commenced in July 2022 as Beyond Behaviour Counselling & Therapeutic Services. Dreamed up by its Director and founder, BBCS was birthed for the sole purpose of working differently to benefit families in Queensland, and with a priority to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families. Understanding firsthand the historic pains of colonisation and forced removals of indigenous children were still prevalent today, the founder being a descendant of the stolen generations, it was time to partner with Child Safety to hope for healing. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children are still overrepresented in out-of-home care, and the team at BBCS are passionate about prioritising family care, maintaining family connections, and ensuring no child loses their connection to country, to culture and to kin. Intergenerational trauma has had a devastating impact on the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, and BBCS hopes to stand together with individuals, families and organisations to journey toward healing, truth and reclamation. BBCS believes that there is hope for recovery from grief, loss and trauma. The Yarramundi Therapeutic Program is designed to support children and young people to recover from complex early childhood trauma and pain. The BBCS approach is one of partnership, and authentic care. BBCS is always ready to listen, most importantly to our clients, you mob. We are dedicated to learning, as we exist to be truly helpful.
Leisa Bennett is the founder and Director of Beyond Behaviour Community Services. She has worked respectfully with Community Elders in creating a model of practice that considers the cultural needs of families since the conception, and BBCS continues to draw on their guidance, wisdom and perspectives.
We envision a future where children, young people and their families can be safe, connected, empowered and thriving together; strong in identity, culture and self-worth. We aim to support families to strengthen and journey towards healing and reunification. We are committed to ensuring children and young people can grow up healthy, happy and with a sense of belonging. We believe that all people's are precious. We stand together with First people's on the path of truth, treaty, unity and sovereignty.
We offer programs that are responsive to the needs of our community. Currently we offer:
Respect will be shown to our Elders, to our Leaders, to our Colleagues, to our Partners, to our Clients and Families, and to our Community. We will conduct our work with integrity.
Relationships built on trust will be prioritised with our Elders, with our Leaders, with our Colleagues, with our Partners, with our Clients and Families, and with our Community. We recognise that human error can occur, and so we are committed to repairing rupture.
Truth will be integral to our commitment to Culture. Cultural Authority will be present through our Elders. Cultural competence will be prioritised through our relationships, through our protocols and through our connectedness to kin, community and country.
Trauma will be understood and accommodated in all that we do. We believe that attachment is the cornerstone and are committed to the pursuit of security and healthy relationships.
